Git is developed by Linus Torvalds for Linux kernel development.
Before Git, each kernel developer sent patches through email attachment to Torvalds.
Each email contain the subject, short description about submodule/feature/fix where that the patches applied, and body contain long description of patches.
Workflow like this (fetching emails, downloading attachments, applying patches) is tedious and time consuming.
